The upgrade to Blackboard Next Generation (NG), which will begin on Friday, May 27th at 10pm, and expected to be complete on Monday, May 30th, 2011, is fast approaching. In the meantime, the question has been raised about what will happen to existing course content after the upgrade. Faculty who have courses or course shells in the current version of Blackboard will not experience any loss of data during this transition. All Blackboard courses and course shells will be available after the upgrade. When faculty log in to Blackboard after May 30, 2011, their existing courses or shells will continue to be available, and they will be able to copy any content from any existing courses into their summer or fall courses.
In addition, faculty who have previously archived a course from the current version of Blackboard and wish to import it into Blackboard NG will be able to do so using the Import Package feature.
For a step-by-step tutorial demonstrating how to import an archived course into Blackboard NG, see http://blackboardtutorials.niu.edu/importing-your-course‎.
