NIU launched the Community of Practice (CoP) for Excellence in Teaching on March 30th. Provost Ingram welcomed faculty and instructors from 13 departments, recognized their dedication to educational excellence, and celebrated their success. NIU colleagues shared knowledge and considered innovative ways to communicate evidence-based, culturally responsive teaching practices at NIU.
Dynamic conversations and brainstorming about strategies for disseminating knowledge emerged in the multidisciplinary group. Participants shared instructional strategies to empower students through educational excellence. Also discussed were strategies for building upon knowledge gained in the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices and Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning courses. The energy and enthusiasm in the room were inspiring. Faculty and instructors embraced their important role in designing, developing, and implementing best practices for teaching to support students’ success.
