The Center for Innovative Teaching and learning has created a new guide, Class Policies for AI Tools,
with sample class policies for use of AI tools shared by faculty at other institutions. Take a look at these examples as you craft and revise your fall syllabi and feel free to use or modify these examples in developing your own policies for navigation AI-generative tools.
We’ve also added a sample statement—Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Statement—to the syllabus statements in our syllabus toolkit, where we also included a link to the additional samples in the new guide. Adjust the policies to fit your own context and to ensure they are applicable to your discipline and coursework as well as your personal and professional parameters of acceptable use of AI in your courses. Make sure you discuss with your colleagues and leadership whether there will be any unified policies surrounding AI in your department or division.
As always, feel free to contact CITL with any questions or with assistance working through your AI or other syllabus policies.
