What’s new in Blackboard?

Blackboard continues to release monthly updates and improvements to the Ultra Course View. Many updates originate on the Anthology Idea Exchange, where you can introduce and vote for new features, updates, or improvements. As new updates are released, you can find a quick video summary and links to more details on the Blackboard Updates page of the Teaching and Learning with Blackboard website. If you would like to further explore the newly released features or if you need assistance improving your course, please feel free to contact CITL

The December 2023 release added improvements to rubrics, allowing unlimited rows and columns. Image insertion was also updated, improving the workflow for adding images to Announcements, assessment questions, and submission feedback. Grid view sorting was also improved. You can watch a short overview and tutorial on some of the updates on our YouTube channel

The January 2024 update included a significant number of improvements. These include the ability to view and sort by category on the Gradebook list view, the ability to view attempt logs for Tests, and the ability to batch edit specific due dates and times. You can watch our brief overview and tutorial on the January update on YouTube. Side note: a useful new feature in the January release that was not covered in the video is the ability to use the unused file management tool to view any files that aren’t linked in your course and delete them (which helps with managing your course quota so you don’t run out of space).

You can view more details about these features and as well as new features coming soon on the What’s New in Ultra page. Monthly updates occur on the first Thursday of every month.

Finally, be on the lookout for a new CITL workshop in early March on newly released features for Blackboard Ultra. Visit our upcoming programs webpage to keep an eye out for this and other upcoming workshops!
