NIU Graduate Teaching Assistants have always been committed to learning more, and that was clearly evident this fall. The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) created a self-paced workshop entitled “Preparing to Teach Online” to support the shift to online delivery. Over 120 teaching assistants completed the six modules, including welcoming, communicating, and engaging with students, as well as grading student work, holding office hours, and managing their own workload.
Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) educational development responsibilities were transferred to the Center over 17 years ago in 2003. Each year, GTAs make up about 25-30% of the overall participation in the programs offered at the Center. The Graduate Teaching Certificate and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award are two examples of how the Center has recognized their commitment to their teaching and development. Check out the upcoming programs offered to our amazing teaching assistants.
